MENTAL Health is again on the agenda with fundraisers hoping to raise in excess of $20 000 for Angels of Hope, an organisation helping local primary and high schools with mental health and suicide prevention programmes. Each programme costs $1000.
Shane Harris, Alice McGlashan and Citizen of the Year winner Jan Craig work together on the switchboard at BlueScope Steel and, with Bernie Lynne, have decided to pool their efforts in an effort to raise as much as they can for Angels of Hope.
It is BlueScope Steels Julie Smith looking a tad worried in the photo about the fate of her hair. The team are preparing for a New Year, New Beginnings hair clip and colour to be held at Westfield Warrawongs Centre Stage on Saturday February 3.
They are calling on volunteers to have their hair shaved or coloured, all for a good cause of course!
According to Ms Craig age is no barrier, only a sense of fun and being willing to gain a few dollars sponsorship whilst helping a most worthy appeal.
Hairdressers from Just Cuts, Style Cuts and MaXimum Hair have donated their expertise for the day so volunteers can rest assured on the quality of their cut.
Raffles tickets are also available with great prizes on offer including a Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb for two, car buff and glaze from CPC Quality Smash Repairs valued at $250, an original painting by Henry Zanotto, Avondale Florist voucher, handmade childs peddle car and box trailer donated by Wollongong City Employment Training in Coniston. In all $2000 in prizes will be drawn following the clip and colour on February 3.
With the help of BlueScope Steel staff, our community, BHP Billiton, Transfield, Eurest and other contracting firms on our plant the committee fee they will hopefully pass their $20 000 target, said Jan.
Mr Harris said he approached Jan, Alice and Bernie to help him help Angels of Hope utilising their experience and expertise in fundraising.
Quite a few people I know have committed suicide. It is an issue close to my heart, he said.
If you would like to help please contact Jan, Alice or Shane on the switchboard at BlueScope Steel on 4275 5722 or send your tax deductible donation to Jan Craig Switchboard BlueScope Steel PO Box 1854 Wollongong 2500.
