ALBION Park closed the gap to Wests at the top of the Illawarra hockey first grade pointscore with wins in their weekend double header on the Southern Highlands.

With Wests and Albion Park now having played the same number of games, the gap at the top is now just one win as the teams head into the second half of the season.

Albion Park played Mittagong on Friday night where they faced a few nervous moments, ahead 1-0 with 10 minutes to play.

But they were able to take control in the latter stages, ultimately picking up a 4-1 result.

Against Bowral on Sunday Albion Park appeared in control for most of the match and eventually ran out 7-3 winners.

Craig Bramble, backing up from representing Illawarra at the NSW Over 35 Championships, scored twice as Albion Park ran out 3-2 winners over Uni Red in second grade. Jon Spicer added the third to keep Albion Park on top.

It was a good day for the club with wins for all teams bar fifth grade White.

Ryan Elliott (2), Matt Elliott and Jay Williams scored in third grade's 4-1 win over Uni Blue, while fourth grade won 3-1 thanks to goals from Rob McDonald, Reece Anderson and Aurey Pullen.

Park Green got the points in fifth grade when University Red forfeited but the University club reversed the result in the other fifth grade game, beating Park White 1-0.
