A group of mates have turned an annual surfing get-together into a worthy cause and have become more hirsute with it - raising funds for Movember.
Movember (the month formerly known as November) is an annual charity event during which blokes are sponsored to grow moustaches to highlight men’s health issues - specifically prostate cancer and male depression.
Vaya Phrachanh said he and his friends had been catching up for a single fin surfing invitational annually and decided this year to hold the event for charity.
Mr Phrachanh and around 40 mates will take part in the Warilla Beach Invitational on Saturday and will be showing off their moves and facial hair for a good cause.
“All of us are growing a mo. Some of us can grow it faster than others,’’ he said “I’ve been growing it for a couple of months and still don’t have anything to show for it.’’
The community is invited to enjoy the competition from 7.30am at Warilla Beach and sponsor the boys. There will also be a barbecue and live music.
