LAST Thursday, November 9 saw St Patricks School, Port Kembla celebrate the launch of their Living Garden Project, an innovative, ecological program which has involved students in an exploration of principals of permaculture, recycling, waste management and sustainable organic gardening.
The official launch was opened with a dedication by local indigenous elder, Auntie Coral.
The Living Garden Project initiative, which was sponsored by Bluescope Steel, has led to the development of a sustainable garden space within the school, encompassing a quiet, reflective area for outdoor learning and the cultivation of vegetables and herbs for use in the school tuckshop.
The launch of the garden was attended by students, family members, teachers and staff.
