Loose change and odd coins collected by the students of Balarang Primary School mounted to a donation of $560 to the Red Cross according to the Fund Raising Co-ordinator of the Illawarra Red Cross, Ms. Pat OShey.
The fund raising effort was an initiative of the schools Student Representative council (SRC) which is made up of students from Year 6. The SRC Co-0ordinator is teacher, Julie Ollender.
The children laid out a large red cross in the school playground and covered it with the coins they collected.
Pat OShey spoke to the children about work carried out by the Red Cross and presented a special Certificate of Appreciation to Year 3 student Luke Vanzin who had done an exceptional job for Red Cross Calling, Ms. Ollender said.
In thanking the students for their efforts and their $560 donation, Pat OShey commended the children as well behaved and said Balarang Primary School was one of the nicest schools the Red Cross had been to.
