Volunteers who roll up their sleeves and pull out their gloves on Sunday March 2 could clean up with some great prizes.

Residents will be cleaning up at locations around Shellharbour City to take part in the national Clean Up Australia Day campaign.

Everyone who helps on the day has the chance to enter the Clean Up Treasure Hunt at Reddall Reserve from 11.30am.

Anyone whose entry is drawn will be given one minute to dig on the beach to uncover more than $1000 in prizes.

Hundreds of eager volunteers are expected to register at the reserves and foreshore sites throughout Shellharbour.

Mayor of Shellharbour City David Hamilton encouraged everyone to get involved.

“Clean Up Australia Day is a great way to keep our city looking beautiful,” he said.

“It’s also a great chance to have a fun day out with family and friends.”

The day will begin with registration at 9am and the clean up will continue until 11am.

Equipment, including gloves will be distributed upon registration.

Volunteers can find a local clean up site by visiting http://events.cleanup.org.au and entering a postcode.

For more information call the council on 4221 6111.
