Plans have been unveiled for a $25 million tavern, convention centre and apartment complex for Tullimbar, to be part of the village’s commercial centre.
Neville Fredericks, the executive chairman of Miltonbrook (Tullimbar Village developer) said the development was an important milestone for Shellharbour City.
“It will be the first major accommodation and conference facility in the Shellharbour City area,” Mr Fredericks said.
“This will fill a real gap in the accommodation market in the southern Illawarra and provide a quality facility for local residents.”
Mr Fredericks said he expected the facility would attract businesses conferences, conventions and people on short getaways, thanks to its proximity to tourist attractions including Macquarie Pass National Park, the Minnamurra Rainforest, the new Illawarra Fly treetop walk and the coast.
Developers Peter Green and Company are expected to lodge a development application with Shellharbour City Council by the end of March.
The development is planned to feature a tavern with bar, bistro, function areas, conference facilities, and 60 serviced apartments.
A feature of the tavern will be a rooftop terrace bar and dining area with glass walls and stunning views of the Illawarra escarpment.
The development has been designed by Wollongong architect Peter Rasa, and is expected to be a three-and-a-half to four star complex, three to four-storeys high.
Future plans for Tullimbar include a town square with public buildings, a supermarket and over 30 specialty stores.
The Shellharbour City Council was unable to comment on the development until the application has been lodged.
