IN a boost for local homebuyers, a further 250 residential housing lots are to be released in the Woodlands Estate, Flinders.
The State Government announced the $15 million sale of the 34 hectare estate last week after government developer Landcom negotiated the deal with Melbourne based land syndicator Peet.
Completing the 1000 lot Woodlands residential project, the project is set to include low and medium density housing.
"This is another example of the government working to provide a sustainable supply of land and housing for the Illawarra Region," NSW planning Minister Frank Sartor said.
"This site is already serviced with water, sewage and electricity services and is close to existing infrastructure, such as the Princes Highway, South Coast rail line, schools and shops, which is important to make the development liveable for families.
"Construction will also generate more local jobs and provide a boost to the regional economy."
With much infrastructure already in place, including new roads, a village green, community centre, cycleway and pedestrian paths, Member for Shellharbour Lylea McMahon said it was inevitable many more familes would move their to take advantage of the relaxed lifestyle.
"It is important that we continue to plan for sustainable growth, to protect our open space," she said.
