EXCITEMENT is building for the ninth annual Shell Cove Shellharbour City Festival of Sport that will be held from Friday 2 March to Sunday 4 March 2007.

This three-day event sees Shellharbour come alive with a variety of unique events never seen in the Illawarra at any other time of the year.

The festival will kick off on Friday evening with the Shellharbour Sports Star of the Year Awards Presentation Dinner at Shellharbour Workers Club.

This gala event will host some of Shellharbour's most talented sporting people.

Saturday is the day for the extremely popular Dragon Boat Challenge to be held on Lake Illawarra at Skiway Park, Oak Flats from 10am.

Local businesses and community organisations are encouraged to enter a team of 20 people to challenge one another on the Lake.

Dragon Boats NSW provide the boats and sweepers and the community is encouraged to come down and support the teams and cheer them on.

The main attraction on Sunday, 4 March is the Inaugural Walk or Run for Fun at Shell Cove.

This 4km walk or run starts and finishes at the main reserve on Cove Boulevarde in Shell Cove and is supported by lots of activities for children and families to enjoy, including local entertainment with a festival atmosphere.

A $5 entry fee covers all children's activities including rides, face painting and organized games.

Proceeds of the Walk or Run for Fun will go to the Cancer Council and the Shellharbour Hospital Ladies Auxiliary.

For registration forms for both the Dragon Boat Challenge and the Walk or Run for Fun visit www.shellharbourcityfestivalofsport.com.au or call Tourism Shellharbour on 4221 6169.

The Shell Cove Shellharbour City Festival of Sport is proudly sponsored by Shell Cove, Southern Cross Television, i98FM, the Illawarra Mercury, Lake Times/ Westonprint, Shellharbour City Council and Tourism Shellharbour.
